SMS Communications Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Nurses Serving Our Neighbors (NSON) collects, uses, and protects the personal information you provide when you register for our SMS (text message) communications program. If you have questions about this SMS program or this privacy policy, contact us at info@nsoncharlotte.org or (704) 270-5057.

About Our SMS Program

NSON operates a text messaging program exclusively to communicate informational messages to registered volunteers. By signing up, you agree to receive volunteer updates, event reminders, organizational alerts, and occasional informational messages from NSON.

We do not use our SMS program for fundraising solicitations, commercial promotions, or any purpose other than those listed above.

Information We Collect

When an individual submits a Volunteer Interest Form on our website, he/she agrees to receive phone calls and text messages from NSON. We collect required information as needed to become a volunteer for NSON, but only the following information will be used in our SMS program:

  • Your mobile phone number

  • Your name (to personalize communications and maintain accurate records)

We do not collect financial information, Social Security numbers, government-issued ID numbers, or any other sensitive personal data for our SMS program.

How We Use Your Information

Mobile Number

Your mobile number is used solely to deliver text messages as described in Section 1 above. We will not use it for any other purpose without your explicit consent.

Name

We may use your name to address you in messages when appropriate.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not transfer or share volunteer data, including mobile numbers and SMS opt-in data, to any external organizations for any purpose except to service providers strictly necessary to deliver the SMS program, and never for those organizations’ own use. We do not transfer consumer data to external organizations even with user consent except where required by law.

Terms and Conditions

You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text 'STOP' to (704) 270-5057. After you send the SMS message 'STOP' to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. Message frequency will vary based on communication needs. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.

Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Our SMS platform provider maintains industry-standard security practices for handling messaging data.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your mobile number and associated registration information for as long as you are an active subscriber to our SMS program. If you opt out, we will:

  • Remove your number from active messaging lists promptly

  • Retain a record of your opt-out to ensure we do not inadvertently contact you again

  • Purge all personal information from our SMS program records within 12 months of opt-out, unless retention is required by law

Minors

Our SMS program is intended for adults 18 years of age and older. Volunteers under 18 may participate only with documented written consent from a parent or legal guardian, as provided on our registration form. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors without parental consent.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will notify current SMS subscribers of any material changes by sending a text message and/or posting the updated policy on our website. The effective date at the top of this document will be updated accordingly.

Continued participation in our SMS program after notification of changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

Message and Data Rates

Standard message and data rates may apply to text messages you receive from us, depending on your mobile carrier and plan. NSON does not charge any fees for participation in our SMS program. Contact your mobile carrier for information about your plan's messaging rates.
